  • Use a 12 pica (font size) and conservative font like TIMES NEW ROMAN because it is easy to read
  • Use active words that can attract attention e.g. investigated, interpreted, achieved, analyzed, monitored etc
  • Only list hobbies relevant to the job you are applying for
  • Always include a cover letter that shows why you are the person who is right for the job- Most applicants fail to do this. Take advantage of it and catch your recruiter’s attention! This is worth a million
  • Always use the right quality paper and laser printer because it reflects professionalism

Why Most CVs Are Automatically Rejected?

Remember you've always been told that the employer has only 60 seconds to scan through your CV. But what they did not tell you is that most of them are not looking at your CV with the intention of short listing you, but are looking for faults that will enable them drop it into the trash can as quickly as possible so that they can move to the next. Unfortunately this act is not always intentional but reflex.
So below are some of the reasons why most CVs are instantly rejected usually within 10 seconds

  1. When a CV is not accompanied with a cover letter which states in details what you can offer your prospective employer.

HOT TIP: The employer is only interested in what he can get from you! So if you don’t let him know how you can benefit him by packaging and presenting yourself with your cover letter (as the candidate who can add value to his organization) then you stand rejected instantly. After all you are going to part with his money every month in the future.

  1. When the typing is faint and your recruiter has any trouble reading it.
  2. When your CV has any spelling or grammatical errors. No matter how minute.
  3. When you are asked to submit a resume and you go ahead to submit a CV thinking that they are the same!
  4. When your CV is hand written: strange as this may seem, some applicants still do this
  5. When typed with a typewriter or typewriter font style: with this you stand absolutely no chance.
  6. When obviously your CV was photocopied. This puts most employers off as it depicts unserious ness.
  7. When printed on transparent or very thin paper.
  8. When [printed on a novelty paper; this is totally unprofessional.
